This is a painful review for me to write. My heart is in small-town Appalachia. I understand hometown pride. I love where I live. If anyone spoke ill about my favorite places, I would dismiss them as crazy. Maybe the people who give this place five star reviews on Facebook came on a better day ... or they don't know any better because they've never left Elkhorn. In my travels this past May, my father and I came to Elkhorn City to eat, because the Breaks Park where we were staying only had a restaurant open 2 or 3 nights a week at this time of year, and we were not there on those nights. I hate to speak ill of SWVA/KY. But I have to be honest. If this restaurant were in Richmond, VA... it would shut down within six months. I've seen it before. A pizza is a very simple thing to make ... it's very hard to make a bad pizza... and it blows my mind when someone accomplishes that. For me, my meal here was in the same category as Mellow Mushroom in Richmond, VA and Charlottesville... only it cost 1/3 as much. :-P After three days of traveling and eating more Subway than I care to admit, my father and I were looking for something different... this was that. Our waitress gets a star. And I am giving this place an extra star since my father says his sub was descent, although difficult to eat because it was stuffed too full which made it awkward.
